Celebrating 6 Years
This month, Calvary Chapel Jaco celebrated it’s 6 year anniversary. It amazes me how fast time has gone by and how much God has done. It seems like yesterday that we were just landing in Costa Rica. As I think back upon the last six years, I think of all the things we have been through as a church. For a small fellowship, in a small town, we have surely seen our share of trials and successes! It has been an adventurous ride to say the least. It has also been a learning experience. While...

Believers World Outreach This year we hosted two mission teams. Both teams were very large and came back to back. It was a very busy time for us, but it was also a very exciting time! The first team we hosted this year was from BWO (Believers World Outreach). We work with them every summer and it has truly been a blessing to partner with them. This year they brought 70 people down and spread out all over Jaco for ten days. They came prepared to reach just about everybody in town! For the kids...
Read More“How To…”
“How To…” is a sermon series through the Book of James. While James can be hard hitting at times, it also clearly displays God’s heart for us to be doers of the Word and not just hearers. This great book is loaded with practical advice for both new believer’s and seasoned saints. "How To" How To: Thrive In Trials How To: Endure Temptation (pt.1) How To: Endure Temptation (pt.2) How To: Avoid Partiality How To: Show Your Faith is Real How To: Control Your...

This past week we were blessed to partner with the Sutton family from San Clemente, California. Mark, Kathy, and their four children, along with their friends Rick and Monica, joined up with the CCJaco team to do repairs at our local park. This is the park that we use each week for our “Tierra de Aventuras” kids club outreach. We had a blast as we painted, built benches, and repaired existing playground equipment. We have had a presence in INVU for the past six years and doing...

I just wanted to give you a brief update and let you know that we are still here and going strong. The end of year / beginning of new year is always a VERY busy time for us at CCJ. Since my last post we have had our Thanksgiving potluck, and our annual Christmas Outreach in which we distribute gifts to over 100 kids. Next it was time for our annual Servants Dinner, where we take the time to thank all of those who serve at CCJ. It is a great time of fellowship and a great opportunity for...

We are so excited to have reached this milestone. God is so good isn’t He! I am amazed as I look back and see the things He has done in Jaco. This month serves as the latest reminder of His goodness and grace towards us. You see, this month is our five year anniversary as a church. Now that may not seem like much, but to us it is nothing short of miraculous. It shows that God truly does choose to use the foolish things of the world to bring glory to His name. In some ways it feels like we...
Read MoreYouth Group Begins
This guest post is by Daniel and Sarah Barrett via their blog: The Barretts in Costa Rica: First Youth Group. Daniel and Sarah serve on staff with us at Calvary Chapel Jaco and they recently started our Youth Group. This is a huge answer to prayer and we are excited about what God is doing. As most of you know, we have a real heart for teenagers and even served the teenagers in our church, Calvary Chapel Lexington, before moving here to Costa Rica. When praying about what the Lord would...

I wanted to let you know that we will be featuring guest posts on our blog from time to time. We have a great group of people that serve with us at CCJ and we wanted to give them the opportunity to share what’s going on. Sometimes they may post directly on this blog, other times we will just link to a blog post that they have already written elsewhere. We hope you are blessed by these guest...

This is part 2 on Humility. Click here if you missed part 1. The Call to Humility: In 1 Peter 5(b)-6 it says “Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “ God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,” The Sobering Truth: Before we dive into this verse I would like to point out it’s context. If you read 1 Peter 5:1 & 5 you will notice...
